With so much importance placed on the interview for some it’s the most stressful aspect of the hiring process. Being well prepared and practiced along with some of the tips below will help you make the best of the situation.

  • Maintain positive body language, don’t slouch or hunch. Sit in as comfortable an upright position as possible.
  • Display energy, and enthusiasm for the subjects you speak about. This will convey volumes about your motivation and commitment.
  • Be attentive to social and cultural graces.
  • People like people who listen. Be patient with the interviewer when they’re talking, and ask follow-up questions.
  • Don’t interrupt or correct a comment, the interviewer may not appreciate being corrected, or shown up.
  • Interviewers respect honesty. You should never lie, or avoid answering the question.
  • Don’t exaggerate or oversell yourself, the interviewer is likely to spot this. Be true to what you can do.
  • Don’t make excuses or blame others. The interviewer will not believe someone who tries to portray themselves as faultless.
  • Treat each question as an opportunity to give them an answer you’ve already prepared that matches the information they are looking for.
  • At the end of the interview ask what the next steps are and when they are likely to happen.
