The only difference between what you’ll do now and what you’ve already been doing is the introduction of HAIR in your discussion. HAIR stands for Help, Advice Information and Referrals; it’s what makes the networking interaction productive.
For each interaction, that isn’t purely social, it’s good to have a plan for what you want to accomplish, which will define how you’ll approach each opportunity. Think about how you can Help each other, give Advice and Information and the Referrals you can introduce to each other. You are more likely to use all of the components of HAIR, when the contact is someone you have not met before, or is someone you are reconnecting with.
