2.6. How will people contact you?

<< Previous or Next >>

Phone.

Only have one phone number that is dedicated to your job search. Make sure the phone is yours (not your work number) and ideally not shared by anyone else. If you’re not available to answer a call, record your own professional voice message requesting the caller to leave their name and contact details, and a time to call them back.

Email.
Use a personal email address (definitely not your work email address), and one you can access and check regularly. Make sure your email address name is professional and not a cute name (such as Koolchick or beerdude or something equally unprofessional). Include a signature file at the bottom of your email message with name and phone number. If you’ve published your resume or details on a web-site, include that website address too.

Fax.

If you have a fax machine, do you have a dedicated number and line for it? If you don’t, it may be worth considering not listing the fax number. Ideally the fax will be on all the time, does not share a line with your phone or answer machine, and always has enough paper.

Post.

Make sure you have your full postal address and zip code. Check your mail daily, and don’t use a P.O. Box number if at all possible.
