15.13. Volunteer. (Optional)

<< Previous or Next >>

Use the Volunteer Section to provide information on your community-based activities that are directly related to the position or align with the company’s culture. It’s not necessary to list every volunteer activity but it’s better to select those activities that showcase “transferable skills”, i.e. skills the prospective employer will find valuable.

You may want to include volunteer activities if, as part of the position, you’re going to be expected to be out in the community. A Volunteer Section may take the place of an Employment Section in cases where an individual has not been in the paid workforce for some time.

List volunteer experiences in the same manner as paid employment experiences, include the name of the organization, city, state, the position title (if appropriate) and dates that these positions were held.

List them in chronological order, starting with the most recent first. You may have held multiple titles within an organization, list the most recent title first followed by the others in chronological order.
