Making the initial connection with a new contact over the phone can seem daunting to some. Preparing what you’re going to say ahead of time will help you through the call and reduce a lot of your anxiety.
When you’re calling someone there are three ways the call can go, and you can plan for all three situations
Leave a message.
The other person does not answer and you need to leave a message. Your script will need to cover
• Who you are and who referred you to them
• What you do.
• Who would benefit from your skills.
• How they can help you.
They answer.
The contact answers the call but cannot spend time with you there and then.
• Who you are and who referred you to them.
• Confirm this is a good time for you to speak.
• If not then fix a time when you can speak further.
They have the time to speak with you.
The contact can spend time with you now.
• What you do.
• Who would benefit from your skills.
• How they can help you.
